The gluten free french toast! Yeahh

No more stale, or hard, tasteless bread lying around in your cupboards, we recycle with this recipe that is far too good and super simple!

Originally it was the poor people’s food. It made it possible not to waste stale bread by giving it a little taste with cheap ingredients.
It seems that French toast was born in the Nord Pas de Calais region, although it is found in all regions of France and also throughout Europe.

Here is the original recipe and find in the chef’s advice some of today’s tips to enhance this snack.

Ingredients for 4 people:

  • 8 slices of gluten free stale bread
  • 2 eggs
  • 250 ml milk
  • 100 g of squash or fine sugar
  • 50 g butter and a little oil
  • 1 pinch of salt

Method:

STEP 1: Pour the milk into a soup plate. Beat the eggs in a second hollow plate with a pinch of salt.

STEP 2: Heat a frying pan with a little oil and a knob of butter. Soak 2 slices of bread first in the double-sided milk and then in the egg and brown the slices of bread in the pan on each side. Place as you go on a serving dish (preferably hot) and immediately sweeten with vergeoise or fine sugar.

The chief’s advice:

  • It is often advisable for this recipe to mix the beaten eggs with the milk. Probably due to a question of the speed of execution of the recipe. Your French toast will be tastier if you proceed as described in STEP 1: It will be soft inside and crispy on the surface.
  • The recipe can be improved by using slices of brioche instead of bread.
  • This snack can be transformed into a delicious dessert by adding fresh fruit, whipped cream, custard or a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

The sommelier’s advice:
As it is mainly our little “tips” that will enjoy this dish, I recommend a large glass of cold milk or hot chocolate or a glass of fresh fruit juice.

We hope you will like this gluten free french toast as much as we did !
